Dr. Welch believed in me.

I was someone who wanted to apply to Veterinary School after earning my bachelor's in animal science during my undergraduate. Unfortunately, my life took a dramatic turn after the traumatic loss of a loved one on the first day of my junior year. My academics took a heavy hit due to external stressors to the point where I wasn't sure if I was Vet School material because my entire life was falling apart. I was heavily considering taking a leave of absence from my studies, but I didn't want to delay my graduation track or vet school applications. It was during this time that a mutual friend connected Dr. Welch and me, and from our first time speaking, I knew she believed in me and my goals. Throughout each meeting, Dr. Welch guided me in my course load structure, roadmap, resume building, and interview skills. She told me what classes I could take over the summer and winter to make up for lost time after tragedy struck, what classes vet school admissions would be looking for, and what extracurriculars I should consider to be a stronger applicant. For 9 months, Dr. Welch guided me through my Vet School Application portal, the VMCAS, conducting mock interviews, supplemental essays, and hitting every logistical checkpoint until the day applications were due. After submitting my applications, I finally felt confident in myself as a graduate school applicant and in my professional animal science skillset. I am proud to say I was admitted to a vet school in December of 2025 and will be pursuing my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine and fulfilling my lifelong goal, all because I had support from someone who genuinely cared about me and believed I could succeed in my goals despite major hardships.
